• Zhengzhou has a history of over 3,600 years as a city; as early as the Shang dynasty it was the site of a capital, and the Shang dynasty royal city ruins in Zhengzhou are the remains of a large early Shang capital, earning Zhengzhou the name "Shang Capital." During the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods, the states of Zheng and Han successively established capitals or towns here; legend holds that the Yellow Emperor was born in the Zhengzhou area, and his hometown has become a sacred site for Chinese people at home and abroad seeking their roots. In modern times, the Beijing-Guangzhou and Longhai railways met here, and Zhengzhou rapidly grew from a small town into a major national railway hub, earning the reputation of "the city pulled by trains," with the city's appearance changing with each passing day.

• Zhengzhou's culture is rooted in the fertile heartland of the Central Plains. The local Zhongyuan Mandarin dialect, Zhengzhou speech, sounds warm and straightforward.
