• History: Guiyang was called Zhu in ancient times. In the Ming Dynasty the Guizhou Provincial Administration Commission was established, and Guiyang became the capital of Guizhou Province; Jiaxiu Tower, first built during the Wanli era of the Ming Dynasty, has witnessed the city's changes over several centuries. In the Qing Dynasty Guiyang's city walls gradually took shape, and it became a key transportation hub in the southwest; during the War of Resistance Against Japan it served as a rear base, taking in institutions relocated inland. After the city was built in the Ming Dynasty, Guiyang gradually became a trading center in central Guizhou, with trade routes reaching in all directions. After the mid-20th century, Guiyang's industrial system was gradually established and the city kept expanding; today it is an important regional central city in the southwest.

• Culture: Guiyang is a city where many ethnic groups live together, with Han Chinese and Miao, Bouyei, Dong, Gelao and other peoples coexisting harmoniously; Miao silverwork, batik and embroidery are exquisite intangible cultural heritage crafts.
