Combo tickets vs. separate
A combo ticket for both Wuzhen zones costs less than buying separately, but Dongzha clears out around 5 p.m. — night visits are only in Xizha.
Holiday crowds
On public holidays both towns are shoulder-to-shoulder; weekdays or low season (Nov–Mar) make for a much better trip.
Where to stay
Staying inside the scenic area is handy for night shots but pricey; outside with taxis is easier on the wallet, and Xitang town has plenty of options.
Sharing a gondola ride
Gondolas are charged per boat, so team up with strangers to split the cost; tickets sell out fast in peak season, buy first, then queue.
South Lake free zones
Only the islet needs a ticket; the lakeside trail and parts of the shore are free, so skip the ticket if you just want a stroll and photos.
