Jinshanling Great Wall Tour Guide

Real coordinates · smooth curved route
Jinshanling straddles the Yanshan foothills with dense, well-preserved watchtowers — praised as “the finest stretch of the Great Wall”. Most visitors climb at Zhuanduo Pass and head east past Xiaojinshan and General's Tower toward Simatai; the quieter western section is ideal for sunset. Hiking on foot throughout, with sunrise and sunset offering the best light for photographers.

  1. Xiaojinshan Tower
    Start · Sight
From Zhuanduokou, climb the wall and head east, passing Xiaojinshan Tower and General Tower. General Tower is the highest point of Jinshanling; from its top you can overlook the Great Wall winding like a giant dragon along the ridge—this section is the highlight of the east line. About 1.5 hours. Why this route: the east line has the densest watchtowers and the widest views; General Tower is a must-reach high point and the best spot for panoramic shots.
  2. General's Tower
about 310 m (straight line) from the previous stop · Sight
  3. Dongfang Terrace
about 2450 m (straight line) from the previous stop · Sight
If you have energy, continue east to Dongfangtai, where watchtowers are even denser and Simatai Great Wall is visible on clear days; if time is limited, retrace your steps from General Tower and descend. Why this route: the Dongfangtai direction offers more photo spots and fewer tourists—a good extension for photography and in-depth sightseeing.
  4. West Wuyan Tower
about 2060 m (straight line) from the previous stop · Sight
With ample time, return to Zhuanduokou and turn to the west line, strolling toward Xiwuyan Tower. The west line is quiet, and at dusk the Great Wall silhouette against the setting sun is at its most atmospheric. Why this route: the west line is peaceful and faces northwest—the top choice for sunset at Jinshanling, with the best photo results.
