Ji'an once served as the capital of the Goguryeo kingdom, and in 2004 the Capital Cities and Tombs of the Ancient Koguryo Kingdom were inscribed on the World Heritage List. This tour starts at the General's Tomb, the "Eastern Pyramid", then links the Gwanggaeto Stele and Wandu Mountain City, and finishes at the Goguryeo Museum in town; the Gungnae city ruins in the urban area together with Wandu Mountain City formed the Goguryeo capital system.
