  1. Rehai Gate
    Start · Entrance
  2. Big Boiling Pot
about 410 m (straight line) from the previous stop · Sight
Enter the Rehai scenic area and walk up the valley: steaming geothermal springs hit you at once; the Big Boiling Pot stays at 97°C and boils year-round—buy a string of eggs at the springside and let the steam cook them ("hot spring eggs"); Pearl Spring, Toad Mouth, and other vents come in varied shapes. About 1.5 hours. Why this route: The Big Boiling Pot is the soul of Rehai—seeing geothermal wonders and tasting hot spring eggs is Tengchong's most vivid experience.
  3. Pearl Spring
about 330 m (straight line) from the previous stop · Sight
  4. Volcano Park
about 30780 m (straight line) from the previous stop · Sight
Move on to the Volcano Park: climb the Dakongshan crater (about 600 steps), a giant bowl-shaped depression with lava terrain clearly visible around it; you can also take the shuttle around Xiaokongshan. About 1.5 hours. Why this route: standing at the crater rim gives a direct sense of a "dormant volcano"—a rare volcanic landscape experience in China.
  5. Hot Air Balloon Base
about 470 m (straight line) from the previous stop · Sight
In good weather, take a hot-air balloon from the Volcano Park to look down on the volcanic cluster and countryside—superb views (book ahead; weather-dependent). About 40 minutes. Why this route: from a balloon the volcanoes look like giant bowls on the earth's green lungs—a unique high-altitude experience in Tengchong.
