Route Introduction
- The highest peak in South China.
- From Gao village in Xing'an, the route follows the historic Laoshanjie pass, mountain road and forest trails to the summit of Mao'er Mountain (2,141 m) — about 12 km and 1,400 m of ascent, best split over two days.
- Ancient hemlock forest crowns the mountain, cloud-sea sunrises are spectacular, and rime ice coats the trees in winter.
- Temperatures drop sharply with altitude, so pack warm layers and gloves; lodges and campsites near the summit allow you to sleep high and greet the dawn.
