Route Introduction
- Niubei Mountain, on the border of Yingjing and Luding at 3,666 m, is famed for its 360-degree sea of clouds, alpenglow, and panoramic views of the Gongga range.
- From Lengqi in Luding or Niubeishan Town in Yingjing, the 15 km hike to the summit takes six to eight hours, though scenic shuttle buses now offer a ride up.
- The best months are April to June and September to November, when sunrise over the cascading cloud sea from the summit deck is spectacular.
- Temperature swings are huge at this altitude—bring warm layers and watch for mountain sickness.
