Route Introduction
- Starting from the Sanhuangzhai car park in Dengfeng, the trail climbs the Haohan Slope, follows a cliff-hanging plank road to the Sanhuang Temple, then descends to the Pagoda Forest of Shaolin Temple, about 10 km in total with roughly 700 m of ascent.
- The plank road clings to the cliffs of Mount Shaoshi, offering close views of the Thirty-Six Peaks, and autumn brings red leaves and drifting cloud seas over Mount Song.
- Expect long, unrelenting stone stairways; poles and knee braces are wise.
- Allow at least five hours, and carry plenty of water on hot days.
