East Lake Scenic Area lies in the east of Wuchang District, Wuhan. A national 5A scenic area and one of the largest urban lakes in China, it covers about 33 square kilometers of water and is made up of five zones — Tingtao, Moshan, Luoyan, Chuidi and Baima — ringed by winding shorelines and the famed East Lake Greenway. Stretching over 100 kilometers, this world-class loop links the Qu Yuan heritage of Xingyin Pavilion, the Chu culture of Chutian Tower on Moshan Hill, the reed-fringed islets of Luoyan and the sunset piers at Lingbo Gate near Wuhan University — Wuhan's beloved lakeside living room.

    Climb the stone steps from Chu City for about 30 minutes, or take the sightseeing bus, to reach Chutian Terrace atop Moshan. Built in Chu style, the terrace offers a 360-degree panorama of East Lake; inside, chime-bell music and dance performances are held regularly, bringing Chu style vividly to life. On the way down, visit Zhubei Pavilion and the Moshan Plum Garden, fragrant with blossoms in winter. Why this route: Chutian Terrace is Moshan's highest point—watch chime-bell performances and take in 360-degree views of lake and hills, the peak of scenery and culture on this trip.

Return along the greenway to Lake Light Prelude, or take the sightseeing bus or public transport back.
