Fanjingshan Scenic Area Tour Guide

Real coordinates · smooth curved route
Fanjingshan, the main peak of the Wuling Mountains straddling Jiangkou, Yinjiang and Songtao in Tongren, Guizhou, rises to 2,572 m and was inscribed as a World Natural Heritage site in 2018. It is famed for the Mushroom Rock and the Red Cloud Golden Summit — a peak split into twin crags linked by a bridge, wrapped in rose-red clouds. The ancient Chengen Temple has drawn pilgrims for centuries. Rich forests shelter rare species like the Guizhou golden monkey. Reach the summit by cable car plus walking; weather changes fast, so bring rain gear.

  1. Main Gate
    Start · Entrance
Take the sightseeing bus to the lower cable car station; the cable car takes about 30 minutes through clouds and primeval forest to the upper station. From there, walk about 20 minutes to Mushroom Stone—two huge rocks stacked in a mushroom shape, the landmark of Mount Fanjing, with open views and clouds often below your feet. About 1.5 hours. Why this route: Mushroom Stone is the most recognizable wonder of Mount Fanjing; check in here first to build energy and anticipation for the summit.

  3. Mushroom Rock
about 3510 m (straight line) from the previous stop · Sight
  4. Red Cloud Golden Summit
about 330 m (straight line) from the previous stop · Sight
From Mushroom Stone, climb the Red Cloud Golden Summit along the boardwalk: near-vertical stone steps and chain-assisted climbing. At the top, two peaks are connected by a sky bridge, each with a shrine to Shakyamuni and Maitreya; when shrouded in clouds it feels like a fairy mountain. The climb takes about 40 minutes and requires good fitness. Why this route: The Red Cloud Golden Summit is the soul of Mount Fanjing; standing on the sky bridge between the two peaks with clouds and Buddhist halls in one frame is the best interpretation of "Fanjing Pure Land."
  5. Chengen Temple
about 130 m (straight line) from the previous stop · Sight
After descending the Golden Summit, visit Cheng'en Temple—an ancient temple built by imperial order in the Ming and Qing dynasties, with red walls and golden roofs hidden among the trees; from the front you can gaze at the twin peaks of the Golden Summit. Then take the cable car down the same way. About 1 hour. Why this route: Cheng'en Temple is the religious center of Mount Fanjing, where incense and scenery blend; feel the millennium-old Zen atmosphere here before descending, completing the journey.
