1. Daci'en Temple Gate

   Start · Entrance

   Enter Daci'en Temple (the translation center built under Xuanzang) and climb the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda: you can go up to the top for views over the old city and new districts; the brick tower imitates wooden structure and remains imposing after a thousand years. About 1.5 hours. Why this route: The pagoda is Xi'an's landmark and a symbol of Xuanzang's spirit; from the top, the ancient capital unfolds below.
2. Giant Wild Goose Pagoda

3. Xuanzang Hall

   about 50 m (straight line) from the previous stop · Sight

   Visit the Xuanzang Memorial Hall in the temple to learn about his legendary 17-year journey west and his scripture translation; the hall has a bronze statue of Xuanzang and exhibits on the Great Tang Records on the Western Regions. About 30 minutes. Why this route: Without Xuanzang there would be no pagoda; the hall helps you truly understand the tower's origin and significance.
4. North Square Fountain

   about 260 m (straight line) from the previous stop · Sight
5. Datang Everbright City

   about 790 m (straight line) from the previous stop · Sight

   Leave the temple for the North Square of the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda to see Asia's largest musical fountain (open in the evening), then walk Datang Everbright City pedestrian street: Tang-style buildings are brightly lit, street performances such as the roly-poly girl and the Tang Mystery Box are lively, and food aromas fill the air. About 1.5 hours. Why this route: Datang Everbright City is Xi'an's nightlife calling card, with lights and performances recreating the grandeur of the High Tang.
