Sihong Hongze Lake Wetland Park lies on the shores of Hongze Lake, China's fourth-largest freshwater lake, in the southeast of Sihong County, Suqian, Jiangsu. One of the largest inland freshwater wetlands in East China and a national 5A scenic area, it charms visitors with a maze of reed marshes threaded by boat channels, a lotus marsh that bursts into bloom each summer, and a garden of more than a hundred lotus cultivars. In autumn and winter, herons, swans and other migratory birds gather around the birdwatching tower, while the Wetland Museum and the water-level dawn redwood forest make the trip as educational as it is scenic. Given the vast terrain, e-buses and boats are the best way to link the sights; allow half a day to a full day, and do not miss the famed Hongze Lake hairy crabs in autumn.
