Tongli Water Town Guide

Real coordinates · smooth curved route
Tongli Ancient Town in Wujiang District, Suzhou, Jiangsu Province is one of the six great water towns of Jiangnan. Founded in the Song dynasty over a thousand years ago, it is often called the 'Venice of the East': 15 canals thread the town, 49 bridges span them, and Ming- and Qing-era houses line the water, so nearly every home fronts a canal and can be reached by boat. It preserves many fine old residences and gardens — the UNESCO-listed Tuisi Garden, Jiayin Hall, Chongben Hall, Gengle Hall and more. Follow the recommended route South Gate → Three Bridges → Tuisi Garden → Jiayin & Chongben Halls → Pearl Pagoda Garden → Gengle Hall → canal boat ride → Nanyuan Teahouse; allow 3–4 hours.
