Book gardens early
Zhuozhengyuan caps visitors — reserve 3–5 days ahead on the Suzhou Gardens WeChat account in peak season; the museum books separately.
Time your entry
Peak-season queues at Zhuozhengyuan are long; arrive before 9 a.m. or after 3 p.m. to halve the wait. Lion Grove is usually quieter.
Pingjiang boat pricing
Sculled boats charge per boat and allow sharing — agree the price before boarding. Evening departures are fewer, so get to the dock early.
Sweet-tooth warning
Suzhou food runs sweet — ask for 'less sugar' if you prefer. Squirrel fish sells whole, so skip it when dining solo.
