⚠️ Pitfall Tips

Save money, time & hassle
Preventing altitude sickness
Rest and acclimatize 1–2 days before big excursions; drink plenty, move slowly, skip hot showers and alcohol for the first two days, and see a doctor if symptoms persist.
Potala Palace booking
The Potala requires a real-name booking through official channels—tickets are scarce in peak season; arrive on time for your slot with your passport.
Temple etiquette
Take off hats, step over thresholds, no photos inside halls; always walk clockwise around Barkhor and turn prayer wheels clockwise.
Sun and dry air
UV is intense and the air is bone-dry—sunscreen, sunglasses, lip balm and moisturizer are non-negotiables.
Dress warm at Namtso
Namtso sits above 4,700 m—windy and cold even in summer; pack a warm coat, hat and gloves.
